1920s men’s fashion is back in style and the vests are one of the things that can give your outfit a roaring 20s look. To pull off your vintage outfit you can invest in a couple of 20s style vests to jazz up your wardrobe. You can also choose whether to go for a notch lapel vest or one without a label.
Men started to wear them at home without a shirt over them and the trend caught on. Striped T-shirts were the most popular because they looked nautical and sailor-ish, and dressing like a fisherman had been trendy since the turn of the century. The look never left vintage men’s summer fashion, even in 1960s when the mods revived it. If a tailored jacket wasn’t worn, then it would be replaced with a cardigan sweater for a slightly more casual impression. In the decades before the fifties, teenagers wore clothes similar in style to adults and in truth, this was still the case in the early part of the decade. The Ivy League ‘preppy’ outfit favored by college students was still relatively conservative, although less formal and relaxed. Students were seen in suits, or certainly at least sports jackets and smart pants. I requested a brown three piece suit with wide fitting trousers and received a 3 button, dark brown, single breasted suit by brand name Caravelli. If the trend for men’s vintage style going more and more casual wasn’t already in place, the pandemic certainly accelerated it. Sales for men’s suits and neckties took a deep nose dive, while the demands for sweatshirts and vintage T-shirts exploded. I think suits may come back in the future, but it isn’t going to be anytime soon. In the 1940s, casual wear started to become slightly more relaxed, and by extension, more comfortable. As part of the Make Do and Mend campaign, many garments were knitted during this decade, menswear included. Popular casual wear for men included sleeveless pullovers – sometimes plain, but usually with Fair Isle patterns in a mixture of shades.
